Applications of the -80 °C to +360 °C temperature chamber

All system components used with the temperature chambers made by ZwickRoell are seamlessly compliant with each other. With the use of our testXpert testing software, operation of all system functions is ergonomic and intuitive. All data can be traceably documented with the test series. The temperature chamber is optimally integrated in the world of ZwickRoell extensometers. Reliable test results are guaranteed for both optical and sensor arm measurements. Our modular design allows optimum adaptation of the chamber to suit your needs. The large volume capacity of the chamber allows additional test area space for components testing.

Our temperature chambers up to +360 °C for the AllroundLine materials testing machine with a load range up to 250 kN are universal chambers that can be used for the following applications:

Applications for standard and engineering plastics

This thermal chamber, including all system components, covers the full temperature range for all standard and engineering plastics. Reliable test results, e.g. to ISO 527-1 and ASTM D638 are therefore guaranteed .

  • For example, you can measure plastics with pronounced yield strength with high precision using the videoXtens or the makroXtens and you can switch the crosshead travel measurement completely automatically without opening and closing the door.
  • If you need large measurement travel distances for plastics without pronounced yield point, an optical and mechanical version with lightXtens and longstroke extensometer is also available.

Applications for elastomers and rubber

The thermal chamber, including all system components, also covers the full temperature range for rubber and elastomers.

  • Large measurement travel distances for elastomers and rubber are handled with the lightXtens or the longstroke extensometer, giving you the flexibility of using optical or sensor arm measurements.
  • Standard compliant testing and temperature accuracy are ensured, for example, in accordance with ISO 23529, ISO 37 and ASTM D412.

Applications for composites

The temperature chamber, including all system components, covers the temperature range for most types of composites.

  • For composites with PEEK matrix for example, the temperature chamber up to 360 °C is suitable with corresponding specimen grips and tools.
  • We offer a comprehensive test tool portfolio for composites testing, which can be flexibly used with the temperature chamber.

Reliable test results

Material or component characteristics are determined with the highest level of accuracy and in compliance with the standards. The
smallest test details become visible due to the unsurpassed measuring accuracy of this testing system.

  • The temperature chamber ensures accurate measurements with load cells and extensometers. Thanks to the innovative fan concept, characteristic values are free from influences caused by vibrations and convection.
  • Proper test performance can be easily demonstrated to customers and auditors. When combined with the testXpert testing software, the test results are repeatable and settings are traceable. Recording of the temperature sequence starts during the heating phase.
  • The position of the optical extensometer remains unaltered when changing to tests at ambient temperature by simply sliding the temperature out via guide rails.

Cost and time savings

State of the art technology guarantees maximum specimen throughput with minimal energy use:

  • The particularly high heating and cooling performance at low LN2 and power consumption lowers operating costs. In some cases, LN2 costs can be cut in half when compared to standard market solutions.
  • Specimen changes through the door-in-door minimize temperature losses and ice formation, significantly increasing specimen throughput.

Flexible in use

Based on its modular concept, the temperature chamber can be optimally adapted to your requirements.

  • Four lateral interfaces allow for the connection of several extensometers (optical and sensor arm) or a handling system for automated tests.
  • If the range of application needs to be extended, all options can be retrofitted on-site as required.
  • The large volume of the chamber also provides sufficient space for components testing and ensures consistent temperatures around the specimen.

Maximum operating convenience

The intuitive, fast, and workflow-based operation of all system components is guaranteed through our ZwickRoell testXpert testing software. By
loading the test program, the testing system including the temperature chamber is fully configured, in a traceable and operator-independent manner. All safety settings and tool distances are automatically set correctly, which ensures reliable test results and optimal protection for the user and testing system.

  • Through uniform operation of all products via testXpert, training efforts are reduced to a minimum.
  • testXpert allows you to automatically approach different force, strain and temperature levels in several sections.
  • With testXpert you can conveniently adjust the fan speed of the temperature chamber, ensuring reliable test results even with fragile specimens such as films.

Precise temperature conditioning

The temperature chamber achieves extremely homogeneous and accurate conditions for the specimens throughout the entire volume of the chamber. This ensures the accuracy and repeatability of the test results.

  • The sophisticated air-feed system combined with precise and extremely stable temperature control guarantee spatial homogeneity and temporal stability of +/- 1 °C.
  • The optional close-proximity temperature sensor enables temperature control at the critical sensor location, for optimum test results. The practical holder allows fast and precise positioning of the sensor.

Door-in-door safety door function

  • With the door-in-door concept, specimen changes or removal of a clip-on extensometer are very convenient, even at 360 °C. The heat is optimally shielded and the operator is protected. Minimal temperature variation results in shorter cycle times, reduced operating costs and reduced ice formation when in cooling mode.
  • The safety door function guarantees operator safety in accordance with European safety regulations, where the chamber door acts as a safety door with guard locking.
