The testing of soft foam materials is quite specific due to the nature of foam, which is composed of a polymer and alveoli of variable size. Test methods have been developed over the time by national and international standardization bodies, but also by main stakeholders like the automotive industry. These methods are often used to test the foam in a car seat, as well as insulation material or space-fillers in a composites structure. We will present the main methods for materials testing currently in use, explain critical points, and look at solutions for these types of tests.
