ASTM F2345 Cyclic Fatigue Strength of Ceramic Femoral Heads

Since being revised in 2021, the ASTM F2345 standard only covers the determination of the cyclic fatigue strength of ceramic modular femoral heads.

For now, when testing the static strength of ceramic modular femoral heads, laboratories refer to the test method specified in the ISO 7206-10 standard.

ASTM F2345: Scope and requirements

ASTM F2345-2021: Standard Test Methods for Determination of Cyclic Fatigue Strength of Ceramic Modular Femoral Heads

  • This test method can be used to determine the effect of different head and cone materials, different designs and manufacturing processes on cyclic loading capacity.
  • For this, the standard describes two different dynamic test methods with a sinusoidal test frequency < 30 Hz.
