Enercon modernizes testing machines with ZwickRoell
Enercon, located in East Frisian Aurich (Germany) is one the world’s leading suppliers of wind energy systems. As a technology leader, Enercon strives to ensure it holds the leading technological position in the wind energy industry through its forward-looking technology and innovation development. To expand this position further, Enercon is partnering with ZwickRoell for modern testing technology.
Wind energy systems are currently up to 200 m high and rotor blades are up to 85 m long. To optimize the systems further with regard to efficiency and performance, GFRP (glass fiber-reinforced plastic) materials are being increasingly replaced by lighter and stiffer CFRP (carbon fiber-reinforced plastics). When it comes to materials research (fibers and matrices, sandwich cores), Enercon relies on testing technology from ZwickRoell.
In addition to the static materials testing machines for tensile, compression, and flexure tests from ZwickRoell, Enercon uses testing technology from the Ulm (Germany)-based manufacturer for dynamic materials and components testing. ZwickRoell modernized three servohydraulic testing machines from another manufacturer with new measurement and control electronics. Thanks to testControl II electronics , not only was the functional scope of the machines expanded, but now dynamic and static tests can be performed using the testing machines. For this purpose, there is the option to switch between testXpert R (dynamic) and testXpert III (static).
