The project callsfor specific areas of expertise, together with the use of special machines.W.S. Werkstoff Service GmbH in Essen (Germany) is using its materials testing machine including laserXtens 2-120 HP/TZ high-temperature extensometer forfirst-time testing of the new materials under extreme loads. The two-camera systemdelivers non-contact measurement of both very small and very large strains toISO 9513 accuracy class 0.5 and is suitable for measuring axial and transversestrain. Micro and standard specimens are tested at room temperature and high temperatures up to 900°C. The temperature controller’s intelligent controlalgorithms ensure that specimen temperature is attained and maintained in accordancewith the requirements of the standard. W.S. Werkstoff Service GmbH relies onits competences as an accredited testing laboratory and on the provenZwickRoell technology of the Z250 AllroundLine materials testing machine."This machine has already given very good service in the past and I am[...] sure that the ZwickRoell high-temperature equipment will perform atleast as well and as reliably.", states Laboratory Manager Dr.-Ing. LorenzGerke. He and his team will be testing the first specimens in the coming days."We are very optimistic that changeover and reconfiguration between roomtemperature and high temperature will be quick and straightforward [...]."W.S. Werkstoff Service GmbH was able to gain initial experience when thetesting machine was handed over at the ZwickRoell High-Temperature Forum inApril 2017.
This smoothchangeover between room temperature and high temperature was one of the mainreasons for obtaining the high-temperature materials testing machine fromZwickRoell, as further testing jobs in connection with the research projectwill be coming W.S. Werkstoff Service's way. Following investigation of themechanical properties of various specially designed test alloys, spectrometricinvestigations (e.g. RFA, OES and EDX) must then be performed on the highlyentropic alloys in order to establish a suitable method for determining theirchemical composition. The ultimate aim of these investigations by W.S.Werkstoff Service GmbH is to develop standardized test methods forcharacterization of these innovative highly entropic alloys which will thenbecome established as standards.
Our thanks to W.S. Werkstoff Service GmbH forproviding this report.
