Contest: Search for the Oldest Hardness Tester

Winning machine in use for 70 years

Which company owns the oldest hardness tester in Germany that is still in use? To answer this question, ZwickRoell, the testing machine manufacturer from Ulm, organized a competition with prizes worth over 15,000 euros. The first place prize, a Rockwell DuraJet 10 G5 hardness tester, goes to Oerlikon Textile GmbH. It still uses a hardness tester from 1954.

First place prize: a Rockwell hardness tester

In use for 70 years and still performing all test tasks with reliability: Oerlikon Textile GmbH from Remscheid in North Rhine-Westphalia secured first place with their instrument, which dates back to 1954 and is still in working order. First place prize is a Rockwell Durajet 10 G5 hardness tester worth approximatley 15,000 euros. The contest took place between April and November and was advertised via the ZwickRoell website, newsletter and the company's social media channels LinkedIn and Instagram.

Other winners who took part in the ZwickRoell contest

Second place goes to Zentrallabor GmbH Leipzig, which owns a hardness tester from 1957. The prize: a portable Rockwell N4A hardness tester. Third place goes to HWG Horst Weidner GmbH from Renningen in Baden-Württemberg. They have a machine dating back to 1958. Their prize: three hardness reference blocks.
