Fatigue testers

Fatigue testing machines are used to determine the performance of materials and products. Compared to static testing machines, dynamic fatigue testing machines are able to test materials under realistic loading conditions to evaluate their fatigue strength, elasticity and other mechanical properties.

For decades, the ZwickRoell Group has been successfully providing solutions for dynamic materials testing. Our experts work hand in hand with our customers, and therefore guarantee the perfect solution for every industry.

From a compact servohydraulic tabletop testing machine to a multi-axis test portal in the mega Newton range—we can meet any of your challenges.

Fatigue testing

Fatigue testing is a special type of materials testing where the mechanical properties of materials are tested under dynamic loads. Compared to static materials testing where the material is subjected to a constant load, dynamic materials testing applies alternating loads, speeds or deformation rates on the material.

Fatigue testing is especially important to examine material behavior under realistic conditions since for many applications, such as aerospace, vehicle construction or for mechanical components, the materials are subjected to dynamic loads.

There are different types of fatigue tests:

Characteristic values, such as strength, ductility, stiffness and deformation properties provide important information for product development and evaluation.

Fatigue testing machine product portfolio

Along with dynamic fatigue testing machines and systems, the product portfolio offered by the ZwickRoell Group includes specimen grips, measurement and control electronics, testing software, and applicable hydraulic components. We offer a wide variety of solutions—from hydraulic power packs and hydraulic piping to single testing actuators—to meet your individual testing needs.

The control electronics are a key factor in determining the efficiency of the fatigue testing system. Powerful solutions for fatigue tests available from the ZwickRoell Group include the Control Cube for multiaxial applications and modernizations and testControl II for complex testing situations.

Servohydraulic testing machines High-speed testing machines Vibrophores Electrodynamic testing machines Servo testing actuators Testing machines with torsion

Servohydraulic testing machines

Servohydraulic testing machines are used to determine material characteristic values under vibrating loads, including S-N tests (high cycle fatigue tests), LCF tests (low cycle fatigue) or fracture mechanics tests.

High-speed testing machines

The HTM series servohydraulic high-speed testing machines allow you to determine strain-rate-dependent characteristic values over a wide speed range. Uses for machine include puncture tests and high-speed tensile tests, as well as peel, and shear tests at high speeds.

Vibrophores

Vibrophores are resonance testing machines that use a mechanical resonator in connection with an electromagnetic drive. The vibrophore’s electromagnetic drive delivers large force amplitudes with low energy input, so they work more efficiently than conventional instruments.

Vibrophores are used for high cycle fatigue tests on materials and components and for fracture mechanics testing on CT (compact tension) and SEB (single edge bending) specimens. The vibrophore can also be used for static tests.

Electrodynamic testing machines

The LTM is an electrodynamic testing machine with a drive based on linear motor technology. It can be used for dynamic fatigue tests, as well as for static materials and component testing.

The electrodynamic LTM testing machine is used by industries that favor oil free and low noise drive technology, such as the medical and electronics industries/ The LTM additionally offers flexible application options for the automotive and plastics sectors.

Electromechanical servo-testing actuators

The electromechanical servo-testing actuators can be universally used as flexible testing machines. They can be easily integrated in test fixtures for both static tests or fatigue tests with large strokes. Applications range from materials and components testing to tests performed on end products.

Fatigue testing machines with torsion

Fatigue-torsion testing machines are available in the form of servohydraulic machines or electrodynamic machines. Our axial torsion testing machines cover a wide range of torsion tests and can be adapted to your specific applications.

FAQ

Fatigue strength is the resistance of a material to fatigue failure. It describes the ability of a material to withstand cyclic loads.

Dynamic fatigue tests are tests in which materials or components are subjected to repeated and alternating loads in order to examine their resistance to fatigue phenomena.

Dynamic materials testing refers to several test methods in which the mechanical properties of materials are examined under dynamic loads, such as cyclic or impact loads.
